# Delete Releases

Deleting a Release Capsule is not recommended for the following reasons:

* Pipelines that use the Release Capsule will no longer work.
* Lineage Graphs for results generated using the deleted Capsule will no longer link to the release, resulting in broken lineage.
* Deleting a Release Capsule or Pipeline will delete ALL VERSIONS of that asset.

Deleting a release should generally only be done for cases where the release is not yet in use. Otherwise, it is preferable to release a new version, rather than completely deleting the old one.

To delete a Release Capsule or Pipeline:

1. Navigate to **Admin Panel** and click **Release Management**.

1. In the search bar, type the name of the release Capsule or Pipeline to be deleted.

2. To navigate to the Capsule, click **View Capsule.**

3. Copy the metadata ID from the Capsule.

4. Navigate back to the Admin Settings tab in the browser. Select **Delete Capsule,** and paste the metadata ID. To delete all the forks of the capsule, check Delete all forks of the release capsule.

5. Click **Delete**.
