Custom Metadata

Custom Metadata's purpose is to describe how to set controlled metadata fields for data assets added by users. Specific fields can be set that can be populated by users to describe data assets.

  1. Click Admin

  1. Select Custom Metadata

  1. Only administrators can add metadata fields. The following fields are associated with metadata tags:

Key Name
Name of the metadata tag

Required

Forces this tag to be set on all data assets in the system

Active

Indicates whether the tag is currently in use Note: Metadata tags cannot be deleted

Value Type

Indicates the type of field, for example, String, Number, List or Date

Unit

Indicates the unit of measurement (optional)

Creating New Keys

To create a new key:

  1. Click Add Key

For this example a new key called Category will be created:

  1. Provide the:

    1. New Key Name, for example Category.

    2. String, Number or Date, from the dropdown, for this example, Number.

    3. Text Box or List, from the dropdown, for this example List.

    4. List values, by entering the required numbers in the input area.

  2. Click Add Values.

  1. To set the Category as a Required field check the checkbox and set the toggle to Activate to activate the key.

Keys cannot be edited or deleted after they have been created, only activated or de-activated. Care should be taken when creating them.
